Vinegar Hill is a lifestyle and fashion emporium comprising shops situated around the South-West of England. It is a family-run chain and we really love working with them. We have completed a number of commissions for Vinegar Hill. When it comes to the VH brand, it is less about the brand marque, but more about the shopping environment within the stores, including what it smells like, the way the products are laid out, the customer service etc. Our job was to represent this experience visually throughout a range of materials.
We added to the existing Vinegar Hill branding by adding a pictorial element that reflected the stores. This creates a little versatility so that the branding will look striking on bags, own-branded products and signage.
Vinegar Hill wanted to launch their own range of products, starting with a series of quirky candle designs. We named each fragrance in a manner that would conjure up an image of an experience (in keeping with the idea behind the brand), rather than necessarily a physical object. As with all of the materials we have produced, we wanted to portray a juxtaposition of styles and influences, to represent the brand experience within the stores.
The website and online shop were a real challenge. It is very hard to represent an ‘experience’ that has so many dimensions, inside a screen! We had to try to portray the look and feel of the stores within the confines of a website.
