Pink Sky Love…

July 25, 2010

Day by Day Design. Naomi discovered her previous neighbour, Jan Day at a Craft Fair selling beautiful cards and prints of fashion illustrations, drawn by her mother in the 1930s. These illustrations are sketches that suggest the start of a much larger concept, with splashes of colour here and there, or suggestions of fabric styles.

Jan says (quite rightly) that “even the simplest of correspondence should be done in style” and these cards allow you to send really beautiful greetings that will make the recipient feel really special.

I, for one, have bought three cards and one print and hung them on the Pink Sky wall because I thought they were so lovely.

Here are two of the prints in situe (I apologise for the poor quality of the photo, it does not do them justice).

I absolutely love the sketches of artists, designers and illustrators. It shows us a little of what is in their mind at the very beginning of an idea. I have just ordered a rather expensive book by Moleskine called “The Hand of the Designer”. It is a collection of sketches by different designers that retails at around £55. This might seem like a lot of money for a book, but to me, it is a very special item.

Do check out Day by Day Design and order some cards and prints! They really are beautiful.
