Well we have just received news from Pink Sky’s own lovable little sock.  He has just returned from a tiring few days away in Egypt!  Here is what he has been up to….

Sockface is in St Lucia! - February 15, 2010 - 10:07

We received news from Sockface today, who has been sunning himself in St Lucia!  He was thrilled to have been able to visit the flight deck and even have a little go at flying the plane en route and then spent a few days sunbathing on the white sands…

A lesson in client liaison - February 14, 2010 - 16:43

Recently we have been doing some work for the Confucius Institute in Cardiff.  They are a fascinating organisation, who have bases at universities around the UK and spend their time building links with China.  One of their projects is to introduce Chinese culture to the education system, by encouraging schools to teach Mandarin and running workshops for children on Chinese traditions and creativity.  We have really enjoyed working with them to build their brand awareness and create an online presence for some of their projects.

However, we do feel the need to apologise to the First Minister for the Welsh Assembly Government.  In trying to describe a photo of Chinese belly dancing to the client, we described it in an email as the photo with “two men enjoying the belly dancing rather a lot”.  We received a polite but corrective email stating that one of the “rather excited men” was his director and the other was the First Minister for the Welsh Assembly.  Whoops!  Sincere apologies to Mr Rhodri Morgan of the labour party and Mr director.  We will bake you some cookies.

The lesson here is that if you do not wish to look like a prize baboon (I wonder what that would look like?!) then be very careful what you say and to whom.

Wolfie’s Jah! - - 16:24

I would like to draw your attention to a brilliant sandwich shop in Cheltenham.  It is called Wolfie’s (must be said with a German accent).  The staff are always cheerful and really helpful.  They even keep a special ‘Kerrachi’ sauce in the basement especially for Mark, who thrives on spices.  Our challenge for the week: Which is the best Wolfie’s sandwich?  Go in and sample one and then let us know!  They are located opposite Bella Italia at the top of the High Street as you go round and up the Bath Road, just near D-bar.

Photoshoot for sarita Lavender - - 13:30

We thoroughly enjoyed our photoshoot with Sarita Lavender, who makes custom glass panels, giftware and also runs workshops with school children and adults.  A great evening was had by all, with some delicious food and wine and brilliant glass projects.

The Secret Society of Mini Ticket Dodgers - February 10, 2010 - 17:36

We have a curious matter to bring to your attention.  There is a space at the top of St James Street in Cheltenham, not all that far from Pink Sky Studios.  In that space, a mini parks every day.  “Why is that strange?” I hear you cry.  Well, here’s the thing.  The space is not actually a space.  It has double yellow lines by it.  The mini is never the same mini.  These minis also never EVER get tickets.  Why not?

When I first brought this matter to Mark’s attention, he thought it was another of my “strawberries are always half price and are never sold at full price” ridicules.  Mark has extensive knowledge of retail and assures me that they are sold at full price.  My argument stood solidly, until we went to Lidl, where we found some strawberries at full price.  Imagine the astonishment of passers by when Mark grabbed a punnet of strawberries and shouted “HA!! I TOLD YOU!!!” at the fullest extent of his northern tones, whilst making strawberry milkshake within the packaging.

Anyhow, as time went on, we discovered that the mini fiasco was not another blonde whim, but actually true.  So we pose the following questions:

-  Why do minis, in this space, never get tickets?
-  Where do all the minis that park in this space come from?  Is it a secret space agreed by the Mafia?
-  Can minis park anywhere for free?
-  Are traffic wardens lacking in their SVA? (Small Vehicular Awareness).

Here is today’s mini (what an awesome set of Pink Sky colours!):

Note, the double yellow lines and lack of parking ticket.  We will keep you posted!

Introducing Sockface… - February 8, 2010 - 11:37

This morning, Sockface arrived.  We received word just three days ago that he would be arriving by freight from the sleepy French town of Fairvoir….  He has arrived with strict instructions that he would like to travel the world and be photographed by interesting design or architectural features.  If you can take sockface anywhere nice, please get in touch to obtain your instructions.  We are also launching a competition to see who can give poor old Sockface a better name, so we’d love to hear your ideas.

Anyway, here he is, in all his glory.  He even has the Pink Sky logo on his badge!  Many thanks to his creator, we are delighted!

Our postcard wall is coming along - February 3, 2010 - 12:22

Here at Pink Sky we LOVE to get post that isn’t a bill, for a previous resident (although this can be interesting!), or a pizza flyer.  If you go (or in fact live) anywhere interesting, please send us a random postcard!

Please excuse the rather fuzzy mobile phone picture!

Pink Sky in Design Week - February 1, 2010 - 09:03

Pink Sky are featured this week in Design Week’s Business Insight section.  There is an embarrassingly large photo of Naomi if you view it online, but we hope you enjoy the article.
